He beats his wife to death even though he still loves her and wishes that he could forgive her, because social convention demands that he distance himself from her infidelity. He's all about his raping and murdering and basically has no moral compass. I just wish I'd started reading later so I didn't have to wait for the next who knows how many books. GRRM is great at getting into the mind of each character and making you understand their motivations. well, it's always better, but also, you read each chapter from a different character's point of view and you can really see what they're thinking.

I then reread the series with the boiledleather order and I'm almost done! It keeps up the pace and, even though you may not hear from a character for many (many) chapters, you at least have a feel for the full story as it's happening. I couldn't make it through 4 on my first read-through because I was just so bored with the new characters and indifferent to most of the ones that were in it. Me too! It's such a good way to read the books.
